Staff Reporter: Following the progress of the investigation into the case filed on the charge of spreading misleading, provocative and defamatory statements on social media and newspapers regarding the 2026 National Parliament Election, law enforcement agencies have conducted a raid on the house of accused Md. Razu Ahmed Emon with the aim of arresting him.<\/p>\n
The plaintiff in the case is Sylhet Senior District Election Officer Mohammad Manjurul Alam. The complaint states that on February 13, 2026, at around 3 pm, while on duty at the Sylhet District Election Commission office, while reviewing news published in various national and local newspapers, he found that Razu Ahmed Emon had made untrue, defamatory and provocative statements implicating the Election Commission and a political party in his reaction to the National Parliament election. At the same time, the complaint also mentions that an attempt has been made to question the election process by spreading false information and propaganda on the social media Facebook.<\/p>\n
According to the plaintiff’s complaint, these statements created confusion, tension and a fear of deteriorating law and order situation in the public mind and tarnished the image of the Election Commission. A case was filed in this incident, accusing Md. Razu Ahmed Emon and 4\/5 other unidentified people.<\/p>\n
The case has been filed under Section 500 of the Bangladesh Penal Code, 1860, on charges of defamation.<\/p>\n
The investigating agency said that after the initial investigation of the case, based on the information and reports received, a decision was taken to conduct a drive to arrest the accused. In continuation of this, the police and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) jointly conducted a drive at his current residence in Shahparan area of Sylhet Cantonment. Several members of the Bangladesh Police participated in the drive.<\/p>\n
However, Razu Ahmed Emon was not found at home during the drive. Law enforcement agencies believe that he is in hiding. Surveillance has been increased to identify his possible location and efforts are ongoing to arrest him.<\/p>\n
The concerned officials of the law enforcement agencies said that any kind of rumors, propaganda and provocative statements regarding the elections are criminal offenses according to the laws of the country. Strict legal action will be taken against those involved in such activities. The investigation is ongoing and necessary evidence is being collected.<\/p>\n
According to the plaintiff, it is known that various conspiracies and misleading campaigns are being carried out in the country and abroad surrounding the National Assembly elections. Various false information is being spread on social media to create doubts in the public mind about the election process. In this context, legal action has been taken against those concerned to protect the image of the Election Commission and maintain public confidence.<\/p>\n
